Start with the output you actually want
Decide whether the build is meant for a powerful musical daily system, a high-output demo vehicle, or an extreme competition platform. A daily system needs usable bandwidth and thermal reliability. An extreme build demands far more enclosure strength, electrical reserve and installation planning.
Choose the right cone size
A 12-inch subwoofer is useful when space is limited or when the design calls for multiple drivers in a compact layout. A 15-inch model provides more cone area per driver and can move more air when the enclosure and power support it. Neither size is automatically louder; total cone area, excursion, power, enclosure efficiency and vehicle acoustics all matter.

Use RMS power for system planning
